Round Tables on the Territorial Strategy of the Urban Area of the City of Jagodina and the Municipalities of the Pomoravlje District

Thematic round tables, organized as part of the process of developing the territorial strategy for the urban area of the City of Jagodina and the municipalities of Ćuprija, Paraćin, Despotovac, Svilajnac and Rekovac, are held in Jagodina with the support of the European Union through the EU INTEGRA programme, implemented in cooperation with the Ministry for European Integration. Through the component implemented by UNOPS, ten territories across Serbia are receiving technical support for the development of territorial strategies and strengthening capacities for sustainable development planning.

Earlier this year, the City of Jagodina and the municipalities of the Pomoravlje District launched the process of preparing a territorial strategy that will serve as the basis for planning the sustainable territorial development of the entire area. The thematic round tables are part of the participatory process of drafting the strategy and provide an opportunity for representatives of the public, private and civil sectors to discuss the findings of the contextual and preliminary SWOT analyses, as well as key topics for the future development of the territory.

During the two-day event, participants will discuss urban renewal and regeneration, green and blue investments, economic development, social well-being and development governance.

Viktor Veljović emphasized that EU INTEGRA builds on the results of the EU PRO Plus programme, which introduced the model of integrated sustainable territorial development in Serbia.

“EU INTEGRA continues to further develop territorial development instruments that are part of the European Union’s Cohesion Policy. This approach is focused on urban and functional areas, with the aim of making better use of their potentials, addressing key challenges and citizens’ needs, and defining clear development priorities,” Veljović stated.

He added that the aim of the round tables is to further improve the draft analysis of the current situation and needs together with a broader circle of local experts, and to define development priorities on realistic foundations and in line with the needs of local communities.
